Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are ideal large aspect ratio molecules with promising future applications due to their chemical inertness, high mechanical strength, and electrical conductivity, among others. Synthesis aspects of CNTs and their assembly into macroscopic fibers, threads, and films, and understanding their chemical aspects are essential for nanomaterials applications. Control over the parameters that affect CNT fiber assembly, length and diameter of individual CNTs directly influence the electrical properties of the macroscopic assemblies. Besides improving the physical parameters of CNT fibers, University of Cincinnati has been working on chemical vapor deposition methods that allow direct assembly of CNTs films at 16 m/s linear speeds, while preserving the pristine nature of CNTs. These factors contribute towards successful applications in  sensor development, energy storage, and neuroscience. Currently  my Lab is exploring fundamental chemical aspects of these macro-assemblies in biomedical implants and employing them as physiological measurement probes for neural recording and stimulation. This talk will cover aspects that contribute the fiber assembly, the electrical current detection, delivery and measurements in physiological mediums.
