Supercritical Fluids: New Opportunities for Green Energy Materials and Energy Conversion Process

Publié le mercredi 28 août 2019
AMADEUS Seminar - Prof. Jaehoon Kim, - Tuesday 3 september 2019, 2:00 pm - ICMCB (Amphi)

Supercritical fluids can offer environmentally benign, highly effective, facile synthetic conditions for developing new green processes for producing various types of energy materials and for developing energy conversion processes, owing to their unique physical properties (low viscosity, fast diffusion, zero surface tension), tunable physical and chemical properties, and unique reactivity. These factors make supercritical fluids highly promising media for overcoming the barriers associated with traditional techniques, including the generation of toxic reaction waste, difficulty in producing nanostructured electrode materials with a high energy and power density, and transport limitations, and catalyst deactivation in energy conversion process. This talk will be organized into two parts. The energy material section will cover how to realize high energy and power density lithium ion battery materials (LiFePO4, Li4Ti5O12, graphene-based composite materials, ultrathin and uniform carbon coating) using supercritical fluid process. The second part, the energy process section, will discuss current studies of biofuel and biochemical production from various renewable feedstocks (lignocellulosic biomass, lignin, sewage sludge, microalgae), upgrading of unconventional heavy crude oil and asphalt, and 2nd generation biodiesel production using supercritical fluids.
